The scope of Configuration Management is defined by two elements:
1. The range of responsibility of Configuration Management
2. The breadth of the Configuration Management Database
It is very crutial for each organization to estabilish the ITIL processes in a proper way. To do so decision makers have to understand that correctly setting the Scope of Configuration Management is one of the critical management decisions when establishing ITIL processes. Too narrow a scope can result in other processes failing to achieve their goals, too broad a scope can result in processes becoming unmanageable and can lead to failure of the ITIL implementation through the withdrawal of management support.
